Announcements
Parking Reminder/Request

If you work for a local company which does not have reserved parking for employees, please consider not parking directly in front of your place of business. Oftentimes these spaces are open because you arrive before the start of business. However, these spaces are better left available for the people who patronize your establishments throughout the day...you could be inadvertently costing your company business by not giving your customers a place park nearby. While this issue applies throughout our business community, it is particulary hard for customers to find spots on Brownsville Road in the area of Brentwood Towne Square. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated by the BBOA and your paying customers.
Welcome New Members

The BBOA welcomes the latest businesses to join our organization:

Stewart Avenue Evangelical Lutheran Church

Donnelly-Boland and Associates

James Saitta Contracting

Western & Southern Life

BBOA Personnel Changes

The BBOA welcomes Rita Day from Goff Backa Alfera to our Executive Board. Rita can be contacted at 412-805-0349 or rrday@gbaco.com.

The BBOA welcomes our new Board Members Valerie Fields, Mary Halerz, Ben Lodico, Vernon Webb, Theresa Zingrone and Lori Allen. Our aging "Pentagon" looks forward to working with the new, young blood in the organization.

The BBOA also accepted the resignations of Cathy Corcetti, Larry Zurawsky and Pamela Ziolkowski. We wish them well and thank them for their past service. They all, especially Pamela, will be missed.

RESIDENT MEMBER PROGRAM

The BBOA announces its first Resident Member, Jack Hartman. Jack, a long time Brentwood resident, brings a new perspective of the borough's issues and concerns to the BBOA. Jack's first order of business was announcing that the BBOA will be the Grand Marshall's of the 2008 Brentwood 4th of July Parade. We welcome Jack and hope that he is the first of many residents to join the organization.

Sponsor a BBOA Mailing

The BBOA is introducing an innovative idea to reduce the organization's mailing costs while at the same time allowing a member business to take advantage of a relatively inexpensive way to advertise to the BBOA business community. By sponsoring a BBOA mailing, your 8 X 10 ad will accompany the BBOA flyer. Describe your business, announce a special, or print a page of coupons. Contact BBOA President Denny Flanigan for information on fees and the upcoming schedule. Businesses are already lining up, so get your request in soon!

Membership Plaques

This year the BBOA started a Membership Plaque Program. This plaque is a great identifying symbol that recognizes you as a current member of the BBOA, and that your business or organization is involved with promoting business in our fine community. The plaque is a symbol of UNITY and "What's Right With Brentwood". Each year we will be sending out a new insert that will replace the previous one. We believe the by displaying this plaque at your place of business, you will be letting your patrons know that you are a part of an organization that is dedicated to encouraging and promoting business in the Brentwood area.

Please contact Rita Day at 412-805-0349 or rrday@gbaco.com if you have not received a plaque and would like one mailed to your business or organization.

BBOA Christmas Luncheon 2007
The South Hills Country Club was filled with Christmas spirit as the BBOA celebrated the holiday season with our annual Christmas Luncheon. Over 120 BBOA members, guests and dignitaries attended the celebration. It was a special time to enjoy the close friendship we share with those we work with all year on our many community projects. We thank all of our friends who make this organization a success. We especially thank Congressman Tim Murphy, State Representative Harry Readshaw and State Senator Wayne Fontana for the many gifts they've given the the BBOA and Brentwood Borough throughout the year. BBOA Light Up Night 2007
While snow and cold is more closely associated with the holiday season, Mother Nature came up with an unseasonably warm evening for this year's Light Up Night. However, there were plenty of lights and sounds to put the community in the right mood to kick off the season. Thanks to all who attended, including that little old man from the North Pole, Santa Claus himself!

Now that the holiday shopping season is upon us, please remember to patronize your local merchants when you are looking for gift ideas. All of the BBOA member businesses listed to the right are ready to offer you great products and services now and throughout the new year.

The Economic Development South celebrated the opening of the gazebo and stairs connecting Brentwood Towne Square at Dewalt Avenue and Route 51. BBOA STREET FAIR - BATTLE OF THE BARRELS 2007
Brentwood's 2007 4th of July celebration kicked off with the 2nd annual “BBOA July 3rd Street Fair & Battle of the Barrel". "On behalf of the BBOA and myself, I would like to thank the businesses that participated in the Battle of the Barrel Street Fair on the evening of July 3rd. Once again, it was a huge success. Especifically, I would like to thank The Theme Lounge, Keener Hardware, Brentwood EMS and Spartan Pizza for donating items for the raffle that will help defray the cost of this event. I look forward to next year's event to be even bigger and better! I am proud to be part of such an auspicious organization as the BBOA. "

BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY NIGHT AT PNC PARK 2007
WEDNESDAY JUNE 13, 2007
PIRATES vs. THE TEXAS RANGERS

Event organizer and BBOA Secretary to the Organization Brian Graham would like to thank his fellow organizers, BBOA members, business sponsors, and community members who helped make this year's tailgate party and baseball game another success. The weather started off great and everyone enjoyed plenty of food, refreshments, and entertainment...And then came the big storm. Luckily the rain arrived just as the tailgate party was winding down, so aside from running between the raindrops to get on the buses, the storm just served to cool things down and provide for a beautiful evening of baseball. The Bucs won the game 8-1 to end the night on a positive note. Click on any of the thumbnails above to view pictures from the event---see if you can find yourself at the tailgate party or ballgame!

SPRING FLING 2007
Live Longer & Healthier..Volunteer for a Committee
Want to find the Fountain of Youth? You can!

According to Prevention Magazine, people who volunteer stay healthier and live longer than people who don’t. VOLUNTEERING KEEPS YOU IN SHAPE. A recent Johns Hopkins University study found that spending 15 hours a week in an elementary school DOUBLES the number of calories you burn in a year. PITCHING IN MAKES YOU HAPPIER. Volunteers report more satisfaction with their lives, higher levels of self-esteem, and lower levels of depression. VOLUNTEERING BUILDS BRAIN POWER. In another John Hopkins study, people who volunteered cut their risk of Alzheimer’s disease in HALF!

Improve your health while improving the health of your community... volunteer for a committee. Read on for information about 2007 BBOA events and committees. Click here for more information on volunteering and your health.

The Value of Brentwood Program

Pat & her partner in the program Vickie Layton, also of Community Bank, put together and deliver welcome bags to new residents of Brentwood. The bags contain a BBOA directory and advertising items such as calendars, pens, refrigerator magnets and coupons of participating BBOA members. For a one-time fee of $15, your advertsing item can be included in the bag. Just drop off your items along with your check to Pat at Community Bank during regular business hours. For more information, call Pat at 412-881-1600.

BBOA Member Discount Program
  • All members will receive an ID card identifying them as a BBOA member.
  • Using the form provided in the September mailing, members offer a discount exclusively to other BBOA members. For example, a restaurant could offer a percentage discount on meals; a medical office could waive a co-pay on a first visit; a cleaning service could offer a discount on the first month of a one-year service agreement; a hair salon could offer a discounted styling service. Be creative - the idea is to attract people to your business.
  • A listing will be compiled on this website. By visiting the website rather than print, new offers and changes can be added or updated on a regular basis.
  • Members visit the website for offers then show their ID card when they patronize your business to receive the discount.
Obviously, not every type of business is able to offer a discount on their product or service. But everyone in the organization, whether they participate as a consumer or provider, could experience a benefit from this program.

Don't miss out on this great opportunity to increase sales while getting to know your fellow members. Send your offer to Brian Graham at morningstarmaintenance@hotmail.com
